Tid bits of my life
We booked a short stay along the coastline with a view of the ocean, framed by a June-gloom kind of fog. As we were fairly remote, we decided to stay in before the wedding festivities and had a little impromptu photography session of our own.
As we pulled up to the rolling hills of green, dipped in gold by the sunlight, we found ourselves alone among the wildflowers and the softly blowing breeze.
With the countless days we are at home lately, it’s always refreshing to be out in the open - surrounded by nature, the wintry crisp air, and an endless blue sky.
We’re celebrating our third wedding anniversary today. Strange how time flies. We’ve been at home together for about half a year now which has been filled with its own blissful moments that we’re incredibly grateful for.
It’s been about six months since we’ve been at home now. During this pandemic, I’ve found “home” has evolved from the place we live to the place we live pretty much all the time. I’m extremely thankful for our place - our sanctuary that we continue to adapt with the times.
In strange times like these, we continue to shelter in place in San Francisco to wait out the unknown. If there’s anything positive about this COVID situation, it’s that we’ve all become a little closer.
My husband and I have been finding it increasingly important to carve out time each day to do something special that brings us joy - something to break up the hours that blend into days and into weeks as we all stay at home. Here’s life in week 1-2 of the staying home due to the Coronavirus.
For the two weeks, San Francisco has been under a mandatory “shelter in place” and most people are at home, trying to prevent the spread of the virus. Since we’re all in this together, I thought I’d share a few fun things to do.
Life lately has been a bit of a blur. The coronavirus has just about dominated all the news and it honestly feels a bit surreal. But part of me is also glad to see our humanity come alive - the communities come together and random strangers helping each other.
It’s been the longest break I’ve taken between posts. For the last month, my husband and I have been busy at work, pushing through a sprint that should start to slow down soon. As with most things in life, bouts of high performance require high recovery. So as the holidays approach soon, we’re looking to take a breath, but also look back fondly at the little moments in between where we’ve made time for unwinding and fun:
The late summer in San Francisco has ended and temperatures have started dropping. We bundled up and headed to the farmer’s market over the weekend. We enjoyed the brisk autumn air and the simple joys of carrying out mundane everyday tasks in each other’s company.
For our second wedding anniversary, my husband booked us a cozy a-frame treehouse near Shasta Lake. We took off work early on Friday and drove up 4-5 hours from San Francisco to enjoy the arrival of fall in the quiet beauty of the outdoors.
On a lazy weekend afternoon, my husband and I decided to venture out for a stroll in the botanical gardens. After waiting several weeks for news on my camera lens repair, I was stoked to find that Zeiss had sent me a brand new lens instead. So to celebrate, we took photos of the beautiful flowers and posed for each other.
Over the last several weeks, we’ve gone skydiving, celebrated my husband’s birthday, gone boating on Lake Sonoma with a full picnic in tow, and worked on crafts in the shop. It’s honestly been a bit of a blur.
On our way to the lake house in Kelseyville, we saw these endless fields of white flowers under the walnut grove. We stopped by around golden hour to explore and take in the beautiful views.
I remember someone once told me that in some cultures, people tend to define themselves by their careers. We often ask someone, “What do you do?” the first time we meet. But in other parts of the world, we ask them who they are, about their family, and where they come from. So one day, as work continued getting busier, I decided I’d take a break and buy a ticket home to spend with my parents.
My mother and I wandered the fields of rolling green in search of spring wildflowers in bloom. So as winter fades and spring brings with it new beginnings, I skip among the wildflowers, feeling free and lighter than air.
In search of inspiration, my husband and I visited the Monet exhibit at the de Young Museum a few weekends ago. A bit worn out these days, looking at Monet’s paintings gave me a sense of peace and wonder as I contemplated his complexity of pastel colors and saw the world through his lens.
There’s nothing like a little tea time at home with Meyer lemons and cookies to brighten up the day when you’re feeling a little under the weather.
With the busy work weeks and the rainy weather, we’ve been finding ourselves wanting to unwind at home. We’ve been bundling up in blankets on our sofa, doing a little web browsing, reading, and watching Netflix. Here are a few finds that might brighten your rainy weekend.
