I love vacations and long excursions into nature, but I also enjoy living a little magic every day whether it's seeing the sunset on the beach at golden hour, running through a field of flowers softly billowing in the breeze, or enjoying that cozy comforting chai around a blazing fireplace that warms the soul on a dreary day. It's an indescribable feeling - at once comforting, recharging, and awe-inspiring, like a force of peace that cradles your weary spirit back to life.
I think more often than not, we value working hard, but forget how equally important it is to dedicate time for recovery. We pride ourselves on our work ethic, but less on our work-life balance. We wait too long to recover, sometimes years. But adding in the little things everyday to recover, soothe, and re-energize can add up to a lot too. Like a special face cream at the end of a day. Indulging in your favorite meal or dessert. Taking a moonlight stroll through a garden. Sitting up on the roof and gazing up at the stars. Taking a moment to feel the sunlight on your skin. Dancing in the kitchen with your loved one.
When your mind is weary, go out and find something to wonder at. To be inspired by. To be re-energized by. Kindle that spark of wonder and never let it die. Let it "burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars" (Jack Kerouac) in the dark of night.
When I have one of those long days, I like to make something special, like a super fluffy, jiggly cheesecake. It's more the act of making (rather than the eating though I love that too) that makes me happy. And making slow motion videos of the cheesecake jiggling after we're done baking that we can laugh and laugh about long after.
Or wherever you are - waking up for sunrise to watch the world alight in pastels and gold. Enjoying a moment of silence, being present in your surroundings and taking in all the simple details, sights, sounds, and smells that are just a little magical.
So I hope you add a little magic to your everyday lives too and make those coveted moments real.
