Exploring Country Estates & Spring Gardens

For a second year in row now, we went to Filoli to view the spring blooms and stroll around the large estate. We took my mother-in-law and aunt here, who had never been. It was a perfect day outdoors, feeling warmth from the sun like a forgotten, but welcome memory after the long winter we’ve had.

We wandered through the house and imagined what it must have been like living here. My favorite rooms were streaming with light and felt cozy surrounded by a personal library and central fireplace.

We stepped out to gardens in mid afternoon, admiring the curated spaces and variety of blooms, splashes of color, and floral scents that rode along the breeze. I love these beautiful vines covering the archways that designating entrances and transitions between the gardens.

The tulips were in full bloom, along with camellias and many others. Tiny little blue flowers were speckled in between larger flowers. Wisteria was beginning to bloom, but the flowering trees were stunning.

This was my favorite photo of my mother-in-law, with layers of fruiting tree branches draped like a Weeping Willow that framed her face.

After several hours, we made our way home. It was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I’m looking forward to more days like this ahead.
