Master Bedroom Reveal

It’s been just over a year since we moved into our home and I thought I’d share how we transformed the master bedroom from the beginning.

The Vision

A key element in our home theme and color palette is warmth. I started with a photo of the original room and starting mocking up our changes in a mood board. I incorporated clean whites with a hint of yellow, texture and earth tones with the wood floors, nightstands, and laundry baskets. And for highlights, I used localized brass that tied together the lights, knobs, and curtain bar around the room. I wanted to create a sense of space and minimalism, but also add some points of interest.

The process

We masked portions of the room and covered the floors to TSP the walls. TSP helps clean your walls prior to painting. We used Benjamin Moore Simply White in Matte for the walls. We had originally started with a Behr Ultra White, but found it made the room feel too sterile.

After painting, the room became brighter. We wanted to make the ceiling wood paneling on the right look more intentional and bring additional warm throughout the room. So my husband and I started the long process of exposing our wood ceiling. Though I think it was beautiful in the end, I think it would have been a lot easier just to install new beams (but I can’t complain about the arm workout during COVID).

The end result was stunning. A pro tip here for covering up old paint in the cracks and knots that wouldn’t sand off was colored caulking (available online or at the hardware store).

The reveal

Here’s the complete reveal and all the little details. Loving this Hygge corner of our home. Thanks for following along on our journey and creative process.
