Making Mini Moments at Home During the Coronavirus

My husband and I have been finding it increasingly important to carve out time each day to do something special that brings us joy - something to break up the hours that blend into days and into weeks as we all stay at home.

After our first week working from home, we realized we needed to establish better boundaries and stop working at our allotted times each day. Before we even realized it, we’d look at the clock and find that it was already 10pm, but we hadn’t made dinner yet.

After week two, we realized the days can all jumble together in a monotonous flow of time and we started to feel simply tired. Not the sleep-deprived kind of tired, but the kind of tired that you feel that weighs your shoulders down and that no amount of sleep or caffeine can revive. We missed the stimulus of simply feeling alive.

So this past weekend, we cleared away all our work, monitors, keyboard, and all. We walked to the bakery to pick up some fresh bread and a sourdough starter to learn how to make bread. And we walked home hand-in-hand to make ourselves a mini little smorgasbord brunch. And in those little moments, as we sipped our tea at the kitchen table, as the morning light continued to stream in and we nibbled on this or that, we felt revived, at peace - content.

So I hope where ever you are, you are carving out time to make mini moments of your own and remember to not only stay healthy and alive, but thrive too.

Cheers,
Vivian
